Faringdon & District U3A Zoom Meeting on 10th June 2021

15/5/2021

The meeting will start at 2.30pm.  The speaker will be Dr David Jones who will talk about The Ecology of Earthworms.  Dr Jones is one of our most popular speakers; working at the National History Museum in London, he lectures at Imperial College.   As an entomologist he specialises in soil ecology; during this talk he will address issues such as how many native species of earthworms there are in Britain, what do they eat, and how do they contribute to soil processes and the ecosystem health.  He will reveal some of the fascinating secrets about earthworms and their role in temperate habitats.
U3A members will be sent the Zoom link a few days before the talk.

I also have plenty of tomatoes, some courgettes and dwarf beans also ready in two weeks.

Please give me a ring on 241367.

From Malcolm at Pampas Great Coxwell

15/5/2021

I have 8 larch lap fence panels measuring 6ft by 5ft that are surplus to requirement and available to a good home for free. All are in good condition and suitable as screening or replacement fencing for a garden project. Available for inspection as currently sitting at the front of the house. Please make contact with me or Sarah if you wish to have a look or take away.

I have a number of cut Conifer logs of various sizes available to be seasoned (as I am reliably informed) would then be suitable to a good home with an open fire. Alternatively, My research suggests these may be suitable as a home or workshop project for wood-turning and so ideal for those of you who might like to while away the hours in your den with a lathe, or whittling with your Swiss Army knife (Please follow appropriate guidance when using knives!)

Contact Malcolm – 07796 572752 – [email protected] – 01367 243404 or call at the door.

It is with great sadness that Nic, Dave, Kate and Sean would like to announce that sadly our mother, Anne O’Farrell passed away peacefully on Thursday 22 April.  She lived in the village for over 47 years and made some amazing friends in that time.  As a family we would like to thank everyone who sent cards to her whilst she was unwell and also to those who have kindly send cards of condolence since.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday 18 May at 3.00pm and there is a link below if you wish to join.  It would be lovely to see you.

George Peck RIP

10/5/2021

It was with great sadness that George Peck passed away on 15th April 2021, aged 89.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

George was a well-respected and liked member of the Great Coxwell community, having lived in the village for over 60 years, after building his own bungalow here.  His skills and craftmanship will remain in many of the homes in the village for many years to come.

In retirement, George was always willing to lend a hand to his neighbours and friends.

The funeral will take place at Kingsdown Crematorium at 1.30pm on 12th May.  It is expected that the hearse will leave the village at about 12.25pm.

RIP George.
