OVO Energy Women’s Tour professional cycling race, taking place on 12th June in Oxfordshire.

Stage three of the race starts in Henley-on-Thames, runs through Faringdon and ends at Blenheim Palace. Close to home the A417 from Wantage to Faringdon will be closed for normal traffic. And some of the A420. There are yellow signs up saying the times of closures.

About the OVO Energy Women’s Tour in brief

Created by SweetSpot Group in 2014, the OVO Energy Women’s Tour is the UK’s first international stage race for women, bringing the world’s top riders to compete in Great Britain as a part of the UCI Women’s World Tour. The race will be over six days for the first time in its history in 2019.

The race, which has been won by the likes of Marianne Vos (2014), Lizzie Deignan (2016) and Coryn Rivera (2018), attracts an annual roadside audience of 300,000, as well as over three million fans through linear and online platforms.

It is with great sadness I write that Polly died suddenly while on holiday in Amsterdam. Polly lived in the village for about ten years at Wayside Cottage.

Her funeral service will be at Westminster Cathedral, London on Thursday 27th June at 2.30 pm.
Everyone is most welcome to come.

Great Barn Festival

I am once again delighted to be part of the team hosting the Great Barn Festival. This year the event has lots of great quality theatre for families, live music, Shakespeare, arts and crafts to try as well as to browse and buy, a bar in the Hayloft, a great cup of coffee, ice cream and fresh wood-fired pizza. We would like to invite you all to join us.

If you are resident in Great Coxwell entrance to the grounds will be free and you will be able to enjoy a great deal of our programme without charge. The rights of way for walkers will not be altered by the event – we even have some homemade doggy treats for our canine friends passing through. We will gladly discount any of the performance tickets where a purchase is required to you as friends and neighbours.

This year the event will support several local charities and on Sunday morning we would love to see as many faces as possible as we have the massed choirs of WOAPA and Soundabout (one of our charities) performing as a pop up choir in the grounds. They would be so pleased to swell the number of voices and unless something remarkable happens in the news we might get a little bit of TV coverage of the charity event too.

Please have a look at our website www.greatbarnfestival.co.uk for further details or call me, Ainslie, on 07774 459046. I am in Danes Cottage (the one covered in creeper next to the post box, it has no front door) drop by if I can help, if you would like to buy discounted tickets or if you would like a paper copy of the programme. I hope you will enjoy the weekend.

Great Coxwell Artweeks Cafe

I would like to give a huge thanks to all the people who made cakes, worked in the Cafe, gave donations to buy food and provided food for our pop-up Cafe. A magnificent effort and we raised just under £2000 for the Village. This would not be possible if you all hadn't been so generous with your donations and offers of work,  which keeps our expenses to a minimum.

Thanks Pam
