The Regent Cinema @ The Corn Exchange, Faringdon will be showing the following films in August 2016:

Weds 3 August : Summer Holiday (U)
(Comedy, Musical - 1963)

A fabulous 60s Musical. This was the first feature-length film for successful British director Peter Yates and it was also a winner, in part, because its star Cliff Richard was Britain's hottest rock 'n roll property in the early '60s. The title song climbed to No. 1 in the charts in Britain. The tale centres around Don (Richard) and his two friends as they take off in a double-decker London bus to travel around Europe and see the sights. Along the way from France to Greece they manage to give rides to a variety of interesting people -- especially a few young women.  (Film duration 1 hr 47 mins)

Director:  Peter Yates
Writers: Peter Myers, Ronald Cass
Stars: Cliff Richard, Lauri Peters, Melvyn Hayes, Una Stubbs

Matinee Club @ The Regent Cinema, The Corn Exchange, Faringdon. Doors open 12.30pm, film starts at 1pm. £4 Single Entry. £24 Annual Membership (min. 12 films). Free tea/coffee.  For more information and tickets please contact Faringdon Information Centre on 01367 242191, email regentcinema@faringdontowncouncil.gov.uk or visitwww.faringdontowncouncil.gov.uk/regent-cinema

Friday 26th August : Florence Foster Jenkins (PG)

(Biography, Comedy, Drama - 2016)

A drama, based on real events, about a New York heiress and patron of the arts who dreams of becoming an opera singer despite having a poor singing voice.

Blockbuster Nights @ The Regent Cinema, The Corn Exchange, Faringdon. Doors open 7pm, film starts at 7.30pm. £4 Adults. £3 Under 18s. £10 Family ticket.

Dear Friends,

Next weekend is our special Flower Festival at St. Mary's, Buscot and All Saints, Coleshill.  The Festival will be on the theme of Let's Celebrate, and both churches will be open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on the Saturday and Sunday (9th and 10th July).  I do hope you will be able to look in sometime over the weekend and see the lovely floral displays that our teams have been preparing.  To mark the close of the Festival, we will be having a special service of Evening Prayer at Coleshill on the Sunday at 6.00 pm.

With best wishes,

David

Badbury Clump Planning Application - A letter from Rob Hampel

5/7/2016

Dear All,

RE: BADBURY CLUMP – IRON AGE HILL FORT in the middle of OXFORDSHIRE where it is alleged that KING Arthur defeated the Anglo- Saxons in the Battle of Mons Badonicus.

I am writing to ask you for your support in an effort to save Badbury Clump from being ruined by the National Trust.  Badbury Clump is a site of natural beauty surrounding an Iron Age fort.  I know it well since it’s a ten minute walk from where I live.  It is visited by thousands of walkers and ordinary folk who want to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the woods with, in early summer, its wonderful carpet of bluebells.  The National Trust, which owns the site, has submitted a planning application to turn Badbury Clump into a designated mountain-biking hub.  The proposed cycle paths cut across established walking tracks and paths. And even where they don’t intersect, the sense of walking in peace and quiet and communing with nature will be shattered by being at such close quarters to the high-energy cycling activities.

A local protest group, to which I belong, has tried to persuade the National Trust that their proposal flies in the face of their statutory remit to preserve and enhance the properties in their care.  They won’t listen: they want a cycling hub and that’s the end of it.  We need as many objections as possible to make the local planning department understand that this proposal is wrong, unpopular and should be refused.

I urge you to send an email to – [email protected] -headed ‘Planning ApplicationP16/V1285/FUL’ – please send from your private email account – Hotmail etc - with the following statement; “I object to the Planning Application P16/V1285/FUL.  Then give your name and home address.  I wouldn’t normally ask, however would really appreciate as this part of the countryside is extremely important to me.  Finally, if by chance you know anyone who you believe would potentially object, I’d totally appreciate you forwarding it on.

Thank you.

Rob

P.S. For those who want to view the planning application in full, and/or to see the range of objections, please see our Planning Applications page.
