Village Barbecue at the Vicarage

21/9/2021

Reminder - Next Saturday, 25th September at 5pm

Village Barbecue at the Vicarage

Just to remind everyone that we would love you all (children included) o come to our village barbecue at the Vicarage next Saturday.  Do come and join Maureen for a sociable evening - including burgers, hot dogs and cake!  Wine is also provided, as are soft drinks if you prefer (or are under age!).  If your preference is for beer, lager, cider or anything other, please bring your own.  You don't have to be a church-goer.  Maureen is the Vicar for the whole parish and more three days a week.  The rest of the time she is a villager - one of us.  She has already joined our WI and is keen to get to know more of you, so do come along.   Although the current forecast is favourable, there is a marquee ready in case of inclement weather so that need not prevent you coming.  We hope to see as many of you as possible.

Thanks to those who have already been in contact. If you haven't already done so, it would be useful to know if you intend to come ([email protected] or 01367 241632, or any other member of the PCC) so that we don't run short!

Parish book exchange — update

14/9/2021

A couple of pieces of news about the book exchange based in the old village phone box:

Those lovely Greener Great Coxwell people have set up a lending library of books on environmental issues, conservation and nature.  These are LOAN ITEMS only, so please, if you take one, please return after you’ve read it.

The book exchange has been really successful since it was set up a few years ago.  It is bursting to overflowing with books (I had to remove a few to keep in storage yesterday to keep the titles visible and prevent books getting creased and damaged.)  At the moment  there isn't any room for any additional book donation so if you’ve got books for the book exchange and you need to re-home them urgently, please can you drop them off at Orchard End (at the bottom of the Church Path and opposite the Old School) and I’ll store them for the future.  Or give me a call (07973 793089) and I’ll arrange to collect.

Are you interested in learning about Yoga but don't know where to start?

Join Rachel for a 5 week beginners Yoga course on Mondays at The Ranch in Great Coxwell. This course will start on September 6th @ 6:30PM.

Movements will be supported with props such as chairs and bolsters to make the practice more accessible.

This course includes a 20 min phone consultation so I know what adjustments to the practice will be needed for each student.

Contact Rachel Wannerton on 07928583879 or [email protected] to book your place or ask any questions you may have.

I hope to practice with you soon.

-Rachel

Fund raising for St. Giles (Easyfundraising.org.uk)

21/8/2021

Dear all,

Everybody can join in with helping the church raise some funds. I hope you yourself have heard of these people, if not please look them up, they do wonders for raising funds for good causes. The system is easy - if you buy things on the net, you go into easyfundraising first, call up the charity you want to support - in this case our church - and then carry on shopping with the myriads of organisations that have pledged their support to it. The rewards vary from straightforward money per purchase to percentages etc. Look for yourself and you will see. how it works!

Many thanks, Mike

Lots of crows - need more scaring

18/8/2021

Save the Day: Sunday, 24th October 2021

Thanks to all those that have let us know they’ll be making scarecrows for the trail, we need some more to make the event worthwhile so if you would like to join in please let me know at [email protected] by 31st August 2021.

If you are not sure what to do or how it works there are some great ideas to be found on Google (https://www.google.com/search?q=scarecrow%20trails) – think about what you might make and where to put your scarecrow.

As this is the first of what we hope will become a regular event, we're suggesting a donation of £5 to cover admin and raise money for the WI.

More information on how to take part will follow soon.

Thanks,
Chief Scarer

Information of Great Barn Festival

16/8/2021

Dear all,

I hope you are having a good summer in the UK,  if you were lucky enough to get a way, I hope your travelling went smoothly and you returned safely and without problems.

After 18 months of silence we are able to start up Stonevale concerts again.    For the first one only, we will be part of the Great Barn Festival, here in Great Coxwell.  It will be quite special, as Piano Gallery offered to move one of my grand pianos to the Barn so I can play on a 'proper' piano.  I am playing with a wonderful Austrian violinist, Sebastian Mueller.  There were quite a few cancelled concerts because of Covid, so this is quite a celebration for us as well.  We are doing a wonderful programme, including  Beethoven, Brahms, Wieniawski and Bazzini, and we might even throw in "Ladies of Lavender" for those of you who saw the movie.

From October, concerts will resume at Stonevale again and will be free as before, with the usual donation box.  I have already secured some fantastic performers for the next few months.

Underneath are the posters as well as the details of how to book.  This has to be booked online because of Covid regulations, but if any of you find this tricky, please call Ainslie Williams, her details are also below, and she will do it very quickly for you.

With best wishes,
Lynette
